Mongoose – കീരി
The Indian grey mongoose or common grey mongoose (Herpestes edwardsii) is a species of mongoose mainly found in southern Asia, in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and some other parts of Asia. Mongoose plays a significant role in the well-being of our ecosystem. Found in thick forest areas and in open cultivated fields, mongooses prey on rats, mice, snakes, lizards, frogs, insects and many other smaller animals. Russels Viper Rescued and Released from Chittur
Yesterday one more Russels Viper (Anali pambu) is Rescued and Released by S.Guruvayurappan of WPSI . Due to increased awareness of people to save the snakes In the past two months about a Dozen snakes are released by wildlife Protection society of India- New Delhi, South India Chapter. Snake was found in Chittur Thaluk office Premise. It was kept in a sack by some youths who came for their own purpose in the office.

ആന നാട്ടില്‍ വരാന്‍ സാധ്യതയുള്ള കാരണങ്ങള്‍ :
- ആനയുടെ ആവാസ കേന്ദ്രം തന്നെയാണ് വാളയാര്‍ , പുതുശ്ശേരി, മലമ്പുഴ ഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ .അത് കാടിന് പുറത്തും വ്യാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
- വാളയാര്‍ വനമേഘലയില്‍ വൈദ്യുത വേലി 20 കിലോ മീറ്റര്‍ ദൂരത്ത്‌ സ്ഥാപിച്ചത് ആനകളെ കൂട്ടമായി ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള പ്രശ്ന മേഘലയിലേക്ക് ആകര്‍ഷിച്ചു.
- വേനല്‍ , തെക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറന്‍ കാലവര്‍ഷ സമയം പനമ്പഴക്കലമാണ്. ആനയുടെ ഈ സീസണിലെ പ്രധാന ഭക്ഷണവും പനമ്പഴം തന്നെ. അതിനായി പാടങ്ങളും പറമ്പുകളും കറങ്ങി നടക്കും അവ.
- വന സംരക്ഷണ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായി അടിക്കാട് തെളിക്കല്‍ പോലുള്ള വനം വകുപ്പിന്റെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ വനത്തിനകത്തു ഭക്ഷണം കുറയാനിടയാക്കാം.
- തേക്ക്‌ തോട്ടം പോലുള്ളവയുടെ പ്രോത്സാഹനം കാടിനകത്ത് വൈവിധ്യമാര്‍ന്ന ഭക്ഷണം ലഭ്യമല്ലതാക്കിത്തീര്‍ക്കും.
- ഇത്തരം ആവശ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കായുള്ള നിരന്തര പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ നടക്കുമ്പോള്‍ സ്വാഭാവികമായി ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന മനുഷ്യ സാന്നിധ്യം ആനകളെ അടുത്തുള്ള മറ്റു സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലേക്ക് നീങ്ങാന്‍ പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കും. അത് ഒരു പക്ഷെ നാട്ടിലെക്കയിരിക്കാം.

- നാട്ടില്‍ ലഭ്യമായ കള്ളോ, വാറ്റു ചാരായമോ എന്നെങ്ങിലും രുചിച്ചുട്ടുണ്ട് എങ്കില്‍ വീണ്ടും ആനകള്‍ അവിടെ വരാനുള്ള സാധ്യത വളരെ കൂടുതലാണ്.
Snake rescued
1.25 meters long Viper snake was rescued by WPSI from Mr.Krishna kumar’s house at Panamkavu, near Pattancheri. The snake was found in an abandoned gobar gas tank of about 12 feet depth.
