It is to be noted that, now a days more number of such incidents are happening due to rampant use of pesticides in the farmlands. When the pests are either killed or poisoned, they are consumed by its predators like frogs and birds, In the next stage, these frogs are consumed by snakes that results intake of heavy doze of  pesticides leads to either end of the food chain or causing imbalance its fragile ecosystems. some times such snakes are eaten by peacocks also that may result to the death of our national birds or kites. In the whole stage, thousands of life forms in agro- biodiversity is being lost every day. Same way the toxicity is reaching to human beings also.
so we all should be alert to protect our agro-biodiversity and ourselves. All the incidents are incorporated in our Agro-wildlife study and detailed report will be prepared.

You too can  protect such wildlife by intimating Either Forest department or us . Mobile  number is 9447700321

Snake rescued

May 11th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Environment, Featured Articles, News

1.25 meters long Viper snake was rescued by WPSI from Mr.Krishna kumar’s house at Panamkavu, near Pattancheri. The snake was found in an abandoned gobar gas tank of about 12 feet depth.

As soon as Mr.Guruvayurappan ( WPSI South India Project Co-ordinator ) got the information, he informed the local forest officials, but, they failed respond in a timely manner and the snake – trapped inside the tank for the last two days – was very weak.

Mr.Guruvayurappan acted promptely and he moved the snake successfully to a more friedly environment – at the banks of Sokanasini River – away from any residential areas.

The Viperidae are a family of venomous snakes found all over the world. This snake is a nightmare. Its venom kills in minutes.

WPSI‘s South India Project coordinator and Environmental activist S.Guruvayurappan was assaulted during Sree Kurumbakavu Vishu vela Procession  on 19th April 2008. He is admitted to Chittur Taluk Hospital and undergoing treatment for injuries to his head and face. We stongly condemn this uncivilised act by anti social elements whose bad acts are increasing day by day in Tattamangalam, especialy during festivals and other temple functions.
