NSS supports move for direct recruitment to reserved vacancies
NSS general secretary P.K. Narayana Panicker
KOTTAYAM: The Nair Service Society (NSS) on Friday welcomed the State Government decision to introduce 10 per cent reservation for the below poverty line (BPL) families in the forward communities.

In a press release at Perunnai, NSS general secretary P.K. Narayana Panicker said the appointment of a permanent commission to look into the issue of creamy layer, as per the court directive in the Indra Sawhney case, too was a welcome decision. The NSS also supported the move to initiate direct recruitment to reserved vacancies.
However, he said the NSS had not made any change in its stance
towards the Justice Narendran Commission. The submission of
the report had raised a heated discussion in the State
precipitating certain social circumstances. This had led to the
initiative on the part of the Government to find a consensus
on the issues involved, and as a responsible social
organisation the NSS cooperated with the move, he said.
The NSS believed that it was only social justice that the
various backward communities got their legitimate quota in
appointments in government jobs. Any move to ensure assured
reservation for these communities should be encouraged.
There was nothing wrong in filling such vacancies through
direct recruitment. Direct recruitment cannot be equated with
special recruitment, he said. The NSS general secretary,
who welcomed the move to introduce 10 per cent reservation
for the BPL families in the forward communities at the
under graduate and post graduate level, said the Government
should have extended this facility to the professional courses
too.
