1816 മുതൽ 1820 വരെ നീണ്ട ട്രാവൻകൂർ കൊച്ചി സർവ്വേക്കായി ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ലഫ്റ്റനൻറ് ബി എസ് വാർഡ് (Benjamin Swain Ward 1786-1835 ) നമ്മുടെ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലെല്ലാം വന്നിരുന്നു.
1891 ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച “Memoir of the Survey of Travancore and Cochin 1816-1820” എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിൽ ഇതിന്റെ വിശദാശംങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്.
ഭാഗം 2 – പേജ് 317 മുതൽ 323 വരെ ചിറ്റൂരിനെ പറ്റി വിശദമായി ഉണ്ട്. കൊച്ചി രാജ്യത്തെ ചിറ്റൂർ ഡിസ്ട്രിക് ന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനം തത്തമംഗലംമാണ് എന്നും രേഖപെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഇരുനൂറ് വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുൻപ് ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർ ഉപയോഗിച്ച സ്പെല്ലിങ് നോക്കൂ, ഇന്നത്തേതിലും എത്ര മാത്രം വ്യത്യസ്തമാണ്.
